RETRO RELEASE! THE PARABLE OF THE LOST COIN
This 3-verse parable is perfect: Easy enough for a child to remember, meaningful enough to influence our behavior for a lifetime!
In Luke 15, Christ tells 3 parables about “the lost”: The Lost Sheep, The Lost Coin and the Prodigal Son. The text for this parable can be found in Luke 15:8-10.
This video clip is from the 2005 production of the musical Hidden Treasures: A Musical Revue of the Parables of Jesus Christ. This song, “Light a Candle” is performed by Tasha Fischer and Donna Truttmann. Thank you, ladies, for sharing your talents!

During this performance, additional cast members surrounded the audience and sang the final chorus in the darkness, waving lit candles in time to the music. Post-performance surveys reported this “surround sound” effect helped make this song a favorite for many in the audience.
There is a wealth of Bible stories videos on the web, illustrated especially for children. This 1-minute clip tells the story of The Lost Coin in a clear and simple way.
Are WE the lost? I once read a commentary that noted that to “roll under the couch”, a coin must be “set on edge” and likened this to our inclination to take offense – maybe even to the point of halting our church attendance. I have referenced this little bit of wisdom many times over the years and it has helped me keep showing up every Sunday.
Are we the woman? What actions count as “seeking diligently” in regard to finding the lost? A call? A visit? A note? A Facebook conversation? Over the years, as I have visited women who have lapsed in their church activity, I have learned that their non-attendence rarely comes from non-belief, but is more often influenced by feeling like they don’t belong, that they are not needed or that there is no one at church who cares about them, specifically. All of these are easy to remedy.
I have heard some of the sweetest testimonies of my life, sitting in the livingrooms of people who have stopped coming to church. We need those dear individuals and they need us. Let’s keep those candles lit!
