RETRO RELEASE! The Prodigal Son – “Oh, Father”

Of the 3 parables of “The Lost”, the Parable of The Prodigal Son is the parable for parents (and maybe a few “older brothers”)!

In the last 2 weeks, we’ve release The Lost Sheep and The Lost Coin.  In the musical Hidden Treasures: A Musical Revue of the Parables of Jesus Christ, The Parable of The Prodigal Son was alloted 4 songs and was the play-within-a-play that closed the first act of the show.

The mini-opera included:

Back at Home” – Sung by the father

Oh, Father” sung by the Prodigal

Hallelujah, Amen!” sung at the return and including the older brother’s concerns

Joy in Heaven”  sung by the entire cast to close out the first half of the show.

(Click on the song titles to see the lyrics for each of these songs.)

Thanks to Bruce Dangerfield for his tender rendition of this song in this clip from the 2005 cast recording.  Beautiful!
